Haight and Ashbury drew such counter culture icons as Hunter S Thomas, Janis Joplin and of course the Grateful Dead. At some point in the late 1960s the area had attracted some much drug culture and rock n roll youths that activities there were reported almost daily in the media. Today the feeling still remains with it’s vintage stores and eccentric street dwellers.
